Carolina Panthers Tickets
Head Coach: Ron Rivera
Offensive Coordinator: Mike Shula
Defensive Coordinator: Sean McDermott
2012: 7-9, 2nd Place in NFC South
Last 5 Seasons (35-45): ‘12 (7-9), ’11 (6-10), ’10 (2-14), ’09 (8-8), ’08 (12-4, won NFC South)
Recent History: It actually wasn’t all that long ago that the Carolina Panthers were a playoff contender. The franchise appeared in Super Bowl XXXVIII (a loss to the New England Patriots) and reached the 2005 NFC Championship Game. In 2008, the club finished 12-4 and won the NFC South. But the club fell apart in a postseason home loss to the Super Bowl-bound Arizona Cardinals that year and incredibly, it seemingly hasn’t recovered. Since winning that division title, the club is a combined 23-41 over the last four seasons.
2012 Review: For the second straight season, the Panthers lost eight of their first 10 games. But a 5-1 finish, including four victories to close out the 2012 campaign, put Ron Rivera’s team at 7-9 in the always-interesting NFC South. While quarterback Cam Newton got off to a miserable start, he was money in the final seven games of the season, throwing for 11 scores (2 interceptions) while running for 387 yards and four touchdowns. NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and linebacker Luke Kuechly led the team in tackles.
2013 Preview: The Panthers have to feel good about 2013 as their late-season winning streak from a year ago included victories over the Falcons and Saints. Newton, who wound up leading the team in rushing yards in 2012, needs to put together a solid season from start to finish and also get some support from running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. And the league’s 10th-ranked defense last season has some emerging stars in not only Kuechly but defensive ends Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson.
