Being as a renewal program for Pittsburgh, founded in 1967, Pittsburgh Penguins. It was the one of the first expansion team when the league expanded from six to twelve teams. Their previous home arena was the Civic Arena; it was also called “The Igloo” by the Pittsburgh fans. In 2009-2010 season end the Penguins moved to their new home arena, Consol Energy Center. The arena has capacity of 18,387 people.  The owners of the franchise are Mario Lemieux and Ronald Burkle.

In 2013-2014 Pittsburgh Penguins played their 47th season for the National Hockey League, under Coach Dan Bylsma and General Manager Ray Shero. They positioned second in the Eastern Conference and they were Metropolitan Division Champions. They also qualified for the playoffs but were eliminated as they were defeated by the New York Rangers. Their season end record was 51-24-7 and home record was 28-9-4. The average attendance for 41 games was 18,618.  

In 2014-2015 which was Pittsburgh Penguins 48th season. The co-owners of the franchise on May 16, 2014, fired the general manager Ray Shero as he was not able to Rangers in the Eastern Conference’s semi-finals. Jim Rutherford was hired as the new GM of the franchise and he fired Head Coach Dan Bylsma and the Penguins hired new Head Coach Mike Johnston. Rick Tocchet was also hired as a new assistant coach. The Penguins came to 4th position of Metropolitan Division and on 8th position in Eastern Conference. They also qualified for the playoffs. Their season record is 43-27-12 and home record is 23-14-4.
